According to a Florida Federal Court document, which was submitted yesterday, Wright and the Kleiman estate have requested an extension on all deadlines in a bid to begin settlement talks. “The parties are currently engaged in good faith settlement discussions. To that end, Dr. Wright and Plaintiffs respectfully request a 30-day extension of all discovery and case deadlines to facilitate these discussions,” the document reads. “Reaching a final binding settlement agreement is in the best interests of both parties, and a 30-day extension of all case deadlines (including the trial setting) would enable both parties to devote their full efforts to that goal,” adds the document....

We weren’t. Everything that I had done in the last year was ruined and I had to start an entirely new research topic. It was a tough but valuable lesson for a young scientist – you should always go further to test your ideas. We know for some diseases that the dose of virus a person is exposed to will directly correlate with how severe the disease is. A good example of this is influenza. A 2015 study from the US showed that the higher the dose of influenza virus given to healthy volunteers, the worse their symptoms. Viruses are tiny particles that must get into our cells in order to replicate, so the logic is that the more starting virus particles there are, the more cells will be infected....

The SEC filed a complaint yesterday against “self-described financial guru” Reginald Middleton and two of his companies, Veritaseum LLC and Veritaseum Inc. In the complaint, the SEC is calling for emergency stop action to prevent Middleton from being able to access what remains of the funds he raised in the “VERI Token” ICO. At present, Middleton is in possession of $8 million worth of investor funds – the ICO originally raised $14....

According to used car website, BuyaCar.co.uk, second-hand buyers are now starting to make the jump to EVs — and in a big way. So far in December, BuyaCar claims that sales of EVs have made up 15% of the second-hand car market. For a majority of this year, just one in 100 used car sales was of an electric vehicle, it added. “On every measure of activity on BuyaCar.co.uk, EVs are really gathering pace in the used market,” said BuyaCar’s editor Christofer Lloyd....

A PlayStation support article titled “Backwards compatibility” clarifies that the “overwhelming majority” of PS4 games will be playable on PS5. It also adds that some of the games will benefit from Game Boost, which will make them run at higher frame rates, but doesn’t specify which games those will be. According to the article, you should be able to pop your disc into the PS5’s disc drive, or download it from your game library depending on which version of the console you have, and be able to play it....

According to researchers at cybersecurity solutions provider ESET, the botnet’s operators are now distributing a module which mines privacy-focused coin Monero. The botnet, which is known to have been active since at least 2012 and typically targets users in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan, had previously resorted to other methods, including click fraud, ad injection, social network fraud, and password stealing attacks to generate income. ESET researchers say that the module’s most notable feature is how it obfuscates itself to thwart analysis and avoid detection....

A study published in the Transportation Research Record journal last month suggests that on average, cyclists have a negligible impact on traffic speeds — generally no more than 1 mph (via Forbes). Forex and Bitcoin Trader, which was advertising on Craiglist Dallas, reportedly deals in cryptocurrency investments, commodity-based derivatives, and foreign currency trading. A statement published earlier this week said the company claimed a $2,000 investment would see returns of $20,000, not including the 10 percent fees charged by the platform. The order says Forex and Bitcoin Trader was misleading investors by claiming it had an insurance policy that backed client funds and a balance sheet with enough net capital to guarantee customers‘ returns....
