Ghostly Sky Circles That Baffled Astronomers Might Be Explosions From Distant Galaxies

We dubbed them odd radio circles or ORCs. They continue to puzzle us, but new data from South Africa’s MeerKAT telescope are helping us solve the mystery. We can now see each ORC is centered on a galaxy too faint to be detected earlier. The circles are most likely enormous explosions of hot gas, about a million light-years across, emanating from the central galaxy. Our paper showing these results has been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication by Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society....

3 Easy Ways To Remove Backgrounds From Images

You might have noticed that we have some pretty bad ass header images on our articles at TNW. Take this one. Or this one. Or maybe even this one, for example. People seem to really like them. — fiiv ? (@mtimofiiv) May 2, 2019 But as with all great artwork, these images don’t make themselves. It might look like it occasionally, but trust me when I say we work really hard on these....

3 Efficient Tips Startups Should Steal From Old School Corporates To Grow

At the beginning of my journey, I sought advice and guidance from those I’ve perceived as the ultimate knowledge base — top managers of the big companies. Through multiple conversations with C-level employees of massive industrial companies, corporate giants, and businesses established in the previous century, I have realized that many of the things I talk about are either alien or nonsense to them. Despite some obvious differences in our views on the world, future, and management, I have had three major takeaways from our discussions....

7 Months After Hash Wars Bitmain S Btc Com Appears To Mine Bitcoin Sv

According to multiple blockchain explorers, BTC.com has mined roughly one percent of BSV blocks over the past 24 hours, and is currently contributing a relatively small hash rate of 4 petahashes per second to the network. Curiously, the rate of BSV blocks signed by BTC.com also seems to be increasing. BTC.com has been noticeably (and obviously) absent from BSV mining since last year’s wasteful Hash Wars, as it involved Bitmain and Roger Ver (Bitcoin ABC) battling gambling figure Calvin Ayre and nChain’s Craig Wright (BSV) for the prominent Bitcoin Cash moniker and its associated $BCH ticker....

7 Reasons Why We Are Failing To Decarbonize Transport

Even if current and committed policies were to succeed, transport’s carbon emissions would still grow almost 20% by 2050. Highly ambitious policies could cut these emissions by 70% – but not to zero. In honor of “transport day” at the COP26 climate summit, here are seven reasons global transport is particularly hard to decarbonize. 1. Demand is closely linked to population and economic growth As economies and populations grow, demand for goods grows, as does the number of people with the desire and means to travel....

But, after some time the codebase may grow enough that it becomes very difficult to manage or track any changes made. A Love Letter To Rocksmith The Real Guitar Hero

If you’ve never heard of it, Rocksmith is, for the most part, exactly like Guitar Hero — except in place of that tacky, five-button plastic “axe,” you use a real guitar or bass. Rocksmith was released in 2011, originally it was only compatible with your standard six-string. But a year later, Ubisoft added support for bass guitars. And, as a wielder of the low-end, I was intrigued. I first picked up a bass as part of a school project when I was about 13 years old....

Alienware S Concept Ufo Is Basically A Nintendo Switch On Steroids

Case in point: At CES, Alienware announced the Concept UFO, a gaming PC that is basically a straight-up Switch clone. But I don’t care because I want one. The Concept UFO packs an 8-inch screen and a 1900 x 1200 display into a portable form factor with detachable controllers. The device overall seems a bit chunkier than the switch, though, on the plus side, the controllers seem a bit more ergonomic....

Amazon Engineer Ring Should Be Shut Down Immediately And Not Brought Back

They wrote: Those are strong words, but he’s not alone in thinking them. A growing contingent of civil rights advocates, surveillance experts, and pundits are working to raise awareness about the potential dangers of Ring’s doorbell cameras. This indicates that privacy advocates are losing the battle against ubiquitous surveillance, something many feel could destroy the bedrock of democracy. One of the biggest concerns with Ring cameras is that people who choose not to install one or participate in the local surveillance network (a connected community software system called “Neighborhoods” that gives police backdoor access to users’ footage) can’t choose to opt out....
